Fashion Week ~ Sydney Day 1

The fashion world descended on Circular Quay yesterday for the start of the Mercedes Benz Fashion week.  A mix of established labels and emerging Australian designers cam out, Day 1 opening with Romance Was Bored and closing with Ginger and Smart. A great start to what is going to be a week packed with first class fashion shows and street style spotting.

ROMANCE WAS BORN

A collection that was a collaboration with Marvel. The same comic book Marvel. Bold comic book prints, punchy prints and sequin detailing fit for a superhero.
A Liechtenstein like set was the backdrop for the show. The models wrapped in striking black and white and pop-colour graphic prints.

The hair was reminiscent of David Bowie in his Ziggy Stardust days.
This was one of the most widely anticipated shows on the schedule, and they didn't disappoint.

LISA MAREE
Opening with an opera singer and a dramatic spotlight show, the swimwear heavy on the crochet and pastel prints.

GARY BIGENI
Draped silhouettes were up, a strong structuring and tight aesthetic, colours that popped with blues ranging from cobalt to sweet and fluffy pale. He combined with elegant and versatile nude and blush shades. I place a bet, as did most, that this is going to be one of the more commercial colelcitons of the week.

KIRRILY JOHNSTON
Roman gypsies were the inspiration for the offsite presentation at Neild Avenue. Mixing femininity and strength.

DYLAN COOPER
The Project Runway winner presented his debut collection in The Box. Full of prints, frills, and neon collars, it was feminine with a bit of edge.

MANNING CARTELL
The evening shows started with Manning Cartell in a church. This saw hot pink trousers, royal purple and sapphire accents, and copious models in white in a big finish. I'm sure many girls were worshiping at her alter by the end of the night.

AURELIO COSTARELLA
As always, exceptional tailoring was Aurelio Costarella...

WHITNEY PORT
Whitney Port launched collections Whiney Eve & WE by Whitney Eve.
Innovative new venue The Box, boxy Manhatten-inspirted pieces featured along side her signature party dresses.

KSUBI
Ksubi collection was unveiled in a whirlwind of energy. Oversized pieces and hooded layers, layered denim and monochrome hawaiian prints proved the standouts.

GINGER AND SMART
Ginger and Smart wrapped up Day 1 with their 10 year anniversary show and a star studded after party. A fitting end to the day.
